RB witnesses Kagame inaugurationPRESIDENT Rupiah Banda returned home from Kigali last evening after attending an inauguration ceremony for Rwandan President Paul Kagame who was sworn in for a second seven-year term of office. Mr Banda was among 16 heads of State and government who witnessed the colourful ceremony at Amahoro National Stadium in the capital city, Kigali. The leaders who attended the ceremony included Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, Democratic Republic of Congo's Joseph Kabila, and Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika. The ceremony was attended by thousands of Rwandese who filled the 30, 000 capacity stadium. President Kagame, in his inaugural speech, said Africa had faced many problems over the years as a result of external forces that did not have the interest of the African people at heart. He said some non-governmental organisations had a tendency of dictating to African countries what they should do. Lieutenant General Kagame said such actions should not be condoned by African countries, as they were independent. He said the external forces had also continued to accuse African governments of being corrupt.  President Kagame said such actions by external forces perpetuated arrogance, which brought about poverty and underdevelopment. He thanked the people of Rwanda for showing confidence in his leadership and pledged to continue working towards enhancing economic development and prosperity in his country.  The inauguration followed President Kagame's successful re-election in last month's presidential elections in which he polled 93.08 per cent of the votes. President Banda was welcomed at Lusaka International Airport by Vice-President George Kunda and other Government officials.—ZANIS
